Designing Digital Spaces to Guide the Journey

Launching Mandalafy & exploring new paths for creation

Beyond Products: Creating Spaces

Today I'm sharing something new: Mandalafy™ has been announced on social media! But this isn't just about announcing a product. This project is another step in my journey creating digital spaces that invite participation and guide interactions.

If you've been following me, you know I've been focused on the question: How do we design online spaces that feel welcoming and intuitive, where people naturally know what to do and feel empowered to create? We now have the ability to shape these experiences, rather than simply accepting what platforms offer us.

From General Store to Focused Experience

When I first discovered print-on-demand, the advice was always "find your niche." I struggled with this because I am drawn to diverse interests, and I built what was essentially a general store of designs. Looking back, I understand why the “niche” advice exists. There is a dramatic difference between attracting an audience to a general store versus appealing to people with a specific product.

Now, I can be much more intentional in my efforts. I will share what I learn along the way with you.

The Customer as Creator

Here's what excites me most: Mandalafy™ puts creative control directly in your hands. You're not browsing pre-made designs hoping to find something that speaks to you. You're creating something uniquely yours. I don't see that happening elsewhere.

Creating this site required rethinking the customer journey. On platforms like Etsy or Amazon, people search keywords and browse results. But when you're the creator of your own product, the journey is different. It needs to be:

  • Immediately clear what the website can help you do

  • Fun and intuitive to use the design tool

  • Simple to see your creation on products

  • Easy to complete a purchase

From the landing page to the checkout process, Mandalafy™ was made with this journey in mind.

What AI Makes Possible

This project wouldn't have been possible for me even a year ago. AI has been my collaborator in building the design tool, structuring the website, and now understanding how to reach people who will enjoy this creative experience.

AI democratizes the ability to create these guided digital experiences. We're no longer limited to the templates and structures of major platforms. We can design spaces that reflect our specific vision for how people can connect and create.

Different Platforms, Different Conversations

As I learn to share Mandalafy™ with the world, I'm realizing that I need to consider how each platform shapes different types of engagement.

For the last couple of years, I've spent much of my time on X, where I feel connected to people I've met, often in social audio spaces. But I am learning (with help from AI) to think about the distinct audience and personality of each platform. So, I just started mandalafystudio on Instagram, which is well suited for visual sharing. In comparison, X is an ideal space for conversation and feedback about the journey.

New Paths Forward

What excites me about this project extends beyond selling products. I look forward to expanding from Mandalafy™ to explore new models for community and creation. I will enjoy connecting this project to the people I know and to my other projects and skills.

Visit Mandalafy™ if you're curious to explore. Using the tool and downloading designs is completely free and accessible. And fun! I'd love to hear your feedback on the experience. What works? What could be clearer?

Feel free to reply directly to this email.

Thank you for your continued support on this evolving path. I'm grateful to have you along for the adventure.
